Crawford News|

The Crawford County Board of Commissioners today announces its intention to increase the 2016 property taxes it will levy this year by 11.97 % over the rollback millage rate.

Since 2008 the Crawford County Board of Commissioners have not increased the millage rate. During this period the County has experienced a decrease in revenues coupled with increases in general operation expenses. As such it has become necessary to increase the millage rate by 1.5 mills in order to maintain current service levels.

The Budget tentatively adopted by the Crawford County Board of Commissioners requires that a millage rate higher than the rollback milllage rate, therefore, before the Crawford County Board of Commissioners may finalize the tentative budget and set a final millage rate, Georgia law requires three public hearings to be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions on the increase

All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearings on this tax increase to be held at the Crawford County Courthouse, Paul Coverdale Room, 100 Georgia Highway 42 South, Knoxville, Georgia 31050 on August, 25th, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and on September 1st, 2016 at 6:00 p.m.
