Crawford County’s Emergency Management Agency’s (“EMA”) mission is to coordinate the preparation for, response to, recovery from and mitigation against a host of potential hazards and threats that may affect the citizens of Crawford County.

All outdoor warning sirens will be tested between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00pm on the first Wednesday of each month only during clear sky conditions. Testing will be conducted the next Wednesday morning, if weather conditions are not clear.
In doing so, the Crawford County EMA implements the Emergency Operations Plan in coordinating emergency response and recovery organizations. EMA also seeks to use available means to educate the public to prepare for disasters of many kinds. Crawford County is qualified for the Federal Performance Partnership Agreement which ensures the county remains eligible for federal public and individual assistance in the event of a disaster.
In short, public assistance means funding to repair and/or restore publicly-owned assets to their pre-disaster condition while individual assistance means funding to repair and/or restore our citizens’assets to their pre-disaster condition. The type of federal assistance available depends on whether a Presidential Declaration is made and what type is approved.
The Crawford County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is currently staffed by dedicated volunteers. Working closely with local, state, and federal partners—as well as local businesses and community organizations—the EMA coordinates planning and preparedness efforts to ensure our entire community is ready in the event of a disaster.
During an emergency, Crawford County EMA serves as the liaison between local responders and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, helping to request and secure additional resources as needed. Throughout the year, the agency also conducts various training activities to strengthen community readiness.
If you are interested in volunteering, assisting with EMA operations, or participating in training opportunities, please contact us by email and include your contact information.
Because communication is essential during and after a disaster, our community partners with the local Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) group. If you would like to get involved with ARES, please contact Sonny Gilbert at wb4nku@att.net.
